Reporter/Producer

Josh Williams is a reporter/producer for DNAinfo covering lower Manhattan.

The upstate New York native served in the 101st Airborne as an artilleryman. After his service, he attended SUNY Plattsburgh, before interning as a photojournalist with the Press Republican and at El Mercurio in Santiago, Chile. Unable to speak Spanish, Valparaiso proved challenging — as was dodging Molotov cocktails and getting hit in the head with dead dogs in local protests.

Josh then headed to the New York Post where he separated himself from other photographers on the freelance night shift by gathering key details to earn bylines as well as photo credits. Josh reported and shot in Baghdad, too, embedded with the 353rd Civil Affairs Unit. One of his images was chosen as poster art for the Academy Award-nominated documentary, "My Country, My Country."

After the Post, Josh returned to Livingston County to launch the Genesee Sun, a weekly paper with a circulation of more than 20,000.

Fun Fact: When Josh went to Iraq he was stranded at the Kuwait International Airport and got a ride to the military airbase from Peter Jennings. Along the way they stopped for lunch.
