MANHATTAN — R&B singer Chris Brown is coming to Harlem to tell school children to hit the books.

Brown, infamous for his 2009 beating of then-girlfriend Rihanna, is expected to appear at the Sisulu-Walker Charter School to encourage students to read on March 11, the Daily News reported.

Brown pleaded guilty to one count of felony assault after beating up pop star Rihanna before the 2009 Grammy Awards.

He was sentenced last August to a year of domestic-violence counseling and 1,400 hours of community service.

But since the incident, Brown has been largely cast aside by the music world.  Despite selling 1.4 million tracks on iTunes, most radio stations shied away from promoting his new album, according to a recent CNN.com report.

He also was excluded from a Michael Jackson tribute.

"I check the top 50 singles every week, and [Brown is] not there. 'I Can Transform Ya' didn't get past the top 20. His album hasn't gone anywhere," Yahoo! music programmer Bill Johnson Jr. told CNN.
