UPPER WEST SIDE — A popular Sunday farmers market on Columbus Avenue is sticking around, despite some complaints from residents about idling trucks.
Greenmarket NYC, the organization that runs 46 farmers throughout the boroughs, will be able to stay another two years while also extending its area by a block. The new market will now be able to extend from 77th Street to 80th Street along the eastern sidewalk.
"Pretty much the only complaints were the issue of truck sounds when they back up," said Andrew Albert, the co-chair of Community Board 7's Transportation Committee,which approved the application on Tuesday night.
Michael Hurwitz, director of Greenmarket, told DNAinfo that with an expansion the market would not only be bigger, but better.
"We can bring in more diversity of produce, more vegetables that are not represented in the market," he said.
